In compliance with the international trend to free trade and overcome the technical and the custom obstacles in the face of the movement of goods and services, the UAE Sought to join the General Agreement on Trade and Tarrif (GATT). It got the GATT membership and signed in April 1994 the concluding statement of the Uruguay negotiations which included the establishment of the W.T.O in early 1995 in order to gradually replace the GATT.

Joining this organization requires countries to present schedules with offers and concessions to be offered to the goods and services sectors. The UAE has prepared the required schedules to join the organization. The schedules have already been approved and the UAE got the membership accordingly. It is worth mentioning that in order to make full use of the membership and to avoid any negative effects, the gulf economic block must be reinforced in the framework of the GCC and through applying the unified Economic Treaty specially that our world is a world of economic conglomerations.
